How Does Artificial Intelligence enhance supply chain resilience? Evidence from China
摘要
Against the background of rising supply chain vulnerability and accelerating digital transformation, understanding how enterprises utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance supply chain resilience (SCR) is of great practical significance. However, the extent to which AI effectively enhances SCR remains an empirical question. Drawing on panel data from Chinese A-share listed firms from 2012 to 2024, this study investigates the impact of AI adoption on SCR and elucidates its underlying mechanisms from the dual perspectives of capability development and external resource diversity. The results show that AI significantly enhances SCR, particularly for maturity-stage firms, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), companies located in Eastern China, and firms with weak supplier-side market power but strong client-side market power. Mechanism analysis reveals that AI achieves this by improving organizational agility, optimizing supply-demand matching, and promoting supply chain diversification. These findings underscore the role of AI as a key driver of SCR, offering robust empirical evidence and practical guidance for building AI-enabled, resilient supply chains that support sustainable economic development.
