Macroeconomic Impacts of Industrial Hemp Expansion in the United States: A General Equilibrium Analysis
摘要
This study analyzes macro-economic aspects of industrial hemp in the U.S. economy with a focus on fiber products. Potential adoption of hemp is evaluated using a general equilibrium model. A policy such as a mandate could induce the use of hemp in production sectors involving fiber, paper, concrete, and building materials. This would cause a very slight decrease in overall societal welfare due to inefficiencies caused by allocations of resources away from market-based choices. However, the hemp-producing crops sector would expand by four percent and create 33,000 to 136,000 hemp-adjacent jobs depending on the policy scenario.
