Reconsidering “Why do people dislike inflation?”
摘要
In a widely cited article, Shiller (1997) found that the public dislikes inflation to a greater extent than economists—and dislikes inflation for different reasons. We fielded a contemporary version of Shiller’s survey to consider how economists’ and the public’s views on inflation have changed over time. We find that, in some respects, economists’ views on inflation more closely resemble those of the public in our survey than was originally reported by Shiller (1997). But important differences remain.
