摘要

The symposium on reswitching, published sixty years ago in a special issue of the Quarterly Journal of Economics, represented a pivotal turning point in the debate on capital theory, known as the “Cambridge Controversy” due to the central roles of economists from Cambridge (UK) and Cambridge (Massachusetts). The passing of many key participants has led to the systematic opening of their personal archives, providing significant new opportunities for archival research. Drawing upon these newly accessible primary sources, this paper offers a comprehensive reconstruction of the special issue’s genesis, the questions it addressed, and the resolutions proposed. By elucidating the intellectual dynamics that shaped this fundamental debate, the paper argues that while the primary theoretical issues have largely been settled, several meta-theoretical questions remain open. Consequently, these archival findings remain highly relevant to the modern economic theorist.
